| Comments: | According to official documents, Mathison was found guilty by stipulated trial on 01/04/2002 in Snohomish County Superior Court of one count of Child Molestation in the first degree. He was sentenced to 68 months in prison. This sentence was suspended and Mathison was granted a Special Sex offender Sentencing Alternative when he agreed to serve 6 months in jail and attend community based sex offender treatment. This conviction was the result of Mathison sexually assaulting the known female victim who was between the ages of 10 to 12 years at the time. Mathison lived near an elementary school and was known as ?the candy man by neighborhood children. Mathison lured children into his residence by providing them with candy, allowing them to play video games, and watch television. The children were also allowed to take photographs and be photographed. Mathison would leave pornographic magazines, pornographic photos and videos, and photos of Mathison that were sexual in nature out in the open so that the children would see them. Some of the photos of Mathison that were sexual in nature had been taken by children. Mathison has admitted to a 23 year history of sexually assaulting and exposing himself to over 200 victims who were female children from the age of five to 12 years old. Mathison has also admitted to stalking children and watching places where children were known to congregate such as playgrounds. He would seek out children that were alone. He would also target children who had separated parents or were without a father. Mathison pled guilty in Snohomish County Superior Court on 08/27/2003 of one count of Indecent Exposure. He was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison. This conviction was the result of Mathison exposing his penis to an unknown six year old female victim at a large department store. Mathison had been observed entering the store and going directly to the children?s clothing area where he was witnessed by store security staff exposing himself to the victim. Mathison admitted to exposing himself to numerous victims in a similar manner for the previous five months. As a result of this conviction Mathison?s SSOSA sentence was revoked and he served his original 68 month sentence in prison. Mathison completed the sex offender treatment program while in prison. Mathison has been referred for civil commitment as a sexually violent predator and was recently found not to meet the criteria to be civilly committed. However, he is considered to be at high risk to re-offend. Mathison is no longer on supervision. |
