Comments: According to official documents Abolafya was found guilty by jury trial in King County Superior Court on 07/14/1997of one count of Rape in the Third Degree and was given a term of 60 months in prison. This incident occurred when the unknown 20 year old female victim was visiting Seattle and did not have a place to stay. Abolafya offered to let the victim stay in his room at a boarding house and she accepted. The victim made it clear that she was not interested in having sex and went to sleep. The victim woke up at 2:30 am and told Abolafya that she was leaving. Abolafya grabbed the victim and threw her onto the bed where he sexually assaulted her. Abolafya had only been out of prison for 22 days at the time of this offense. On 06/18/1993 Abolafya pled guilty in King County Superior Court to one count of Residential Burglary. He was sentenced to 72 months in prison. In this incident Abolafya entered the home of an unknown 70 year-old wheelchair bound female and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim answered the door and found Abolafya there asking for someone she did not know. He then asked to use her phone book. She went to get the phone book and returned to find Abolafya had entered the residence and was sitting on the couch. He pushed the victim's wheelchair into her bedroom where he attempted to sexually assault her. He had originally been charged with Attempted Rape in the First Degree but that charge was amended to Residential Burglary as part of the plea agreement. Abolafya's criminal history also includes convictions for seven counts of Burglary between 1982 and 1992, three counts of Theft Second Degree and one count of Taking a Motor Vehicle without Owner's Permission. On 01/12/2001 just prior to his release from prison Abolafya was held for possible civil commitment as a sexually violent predator. This process continued until 06/15/2005 when Abolafya was found to no longer meet the criteria of sexually violent predator. As a result he was released from custody. Abolafya has participated in the sex offender treatment program while in prison and has participated in sex offender treatment while awaiting civil commitment proceedings. Abolafya was convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in King County Court on April 14, 2008 and was given a term of 60 days in jail. Abolafya was then held for possible civil commitment as a sexually violent predator and was again found to no longer meet the criteria and was released. Abolafya registered with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office on March 13, 2009. Abolafya is not on active supervision and his only requirement is to register as a sex offender.
