Submitted BY Detective Ed Blair â Community Crimes Unit On May 4th, 2013, Deputy Byrd was dispatched to 4075 West Bonanza Drive in Beverly Hills, in reference to a grand theft, which had already occurred. Upon his arrival, he made contact with the victim, Ms Julianne Jackson, who advised she had hired the Defendant, Mr. Christopher Baker to help clean up after her dogs and give them their medication. Ms. Jackson advised she has video surveillance inside her residence. Ms. Jackson advised she discovered $295.00 missing from her purse. She advised her purse was hanging on the bed post inside her master bedroom. After viewing her video surveillance, she observed the suspect go inside her purse and it appeared to her that he had removed the money. Upon further investigation, she observed the suspect go into her motherâs closet and was in the closet for approximately 35 seconds before he exited. She checked to see if money in her motherâs envelope in her drawer was there, but it was missing. Ms Jackson advised an envelope and bank bag contained $5000.00 in cash. After conducting a follow up interview with the victim, this Detective responded to 3588 East Jonah Place in Inverness to interview the suspect in the case. The residence located at 3588 East Jonah Place is the Defendantâs personal residence. Upon arrival, this Detective made contact with the Defendant at the front door. He invited this Detective inside the residence after this Detective requested to speak with him regarding Ms. Jackson. Furthermore, this Detective advised the Defendant, he was not under arrest. As we both sat in his living room, The Defendant advised he knew why this Detective was there and wished to talk about the incident. The Defendant appeared emotional and immediately apologized by stating he was sorry. The Defendant admitted to taking money on 3 separate occasions, but was only in the hundreds of dollars. At first, the Defendant stated he knew more money was missing from the motherâs room, but he was not responsible for the theft of the $5,000. Upon further questioning, he stated he did take the bank bag, but it did not contain $5,000, but admitted it was multiple thousands. He stated he disposed of the bank bag in his residential trash can, which had already been picked up. This Detective again advised the defendant he was not under arrest, but requested to record his statement. The Defendant agreed and conducted a taped interview, during which he apologized to the victim and admitted to the theft. Furthermore, the Defendant admitted to using the money to buy legal Spice, equipment for his Christian band, and 2 months of rent at his residence. Upon completion of the interview, this Detective advised the Defendant he was under arrest for Grand Theft. He was advised that based on his cooperation, this Detective would set his bond at ROR. The Defendant was handcuffed in front of his body and transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility where his bond was set at ROR. |
