| Comments: | According to official documents, from 1984 to 1987 Garth SNIVELY sexually assaulted two of his nephews between the ages five through nine. In October 1993 the victims were interviewed and disclosed the abuse. The abuse occurred during visits to the residence when SNIVELY's wife was away from the home. The victims related that there were ten or more incidents and they both witnessed the sexual abuse. The victims also disclosed that there was one other male juvenile male who lived at the residence who was also abused. Documents indicate that the Child Molestation charges were from incidents from 1990 to 1993. The 11 year-old non-familial male reported that he had been molested for several years by SNIVELY. SNIVELY was described as a close family friend and befriended the victim and his mother from the church where SNIVELY was the children's church teacher. The molestation incidents occurred while the victim was at SNIVELY''s residence during overnight and weekend visits. Based on the aforementioned victim''s disclosures, three additional family members, two 6 year-old males and a 7 year-old male were interviewed and disclosed incidents of molestation by SNIVELY. Another victim was identified when police served a search warrant on SNIVELY''s residence. An 8 year-old male was found at the residence and disclosed that SNIVELY molested him at the residence. SNIVELY has admitted to molesting kids since he was 12 years old and disclosed over 30 victims in an evaluation in 1993. In another evaluation in 2000 SNIVELY estimated that he had over 100 victims, all boys between the ages of 5 and 12. SNIVELY gained access to many of the victims through social outings under the auspices of Cub and Boy Scouts, Big Brothers, and his position as a Sunday School Instructor. SNIVELY has been authorized to leave the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island and reside at the Secure Community Transition Facility (SCTF) on McNeil Island. SNIVELY will be escorted in the community when he leaves his secure housing. Due to SNIVELY's sexual criminal history he has been classified as a level 3 Sex Offender. |
