Charge description: Jesse Cuarenta was sentenced to 35 years in prison on October 29, 2013 by 240th District Court Judge Thomas Culver, III. The 32 year-old Rosenberg man was convicted as a repeat family violence offender involving an attack on his girlfriend in August of 2011. According to Chief Domestic Violence Prosecutor Chad Bridges, Cuarenta brutally assaulted his girlfriend on the night of August 7, 2011 after the two returned home from a nightclub to the Tara subdivision. The defendant punched and kicked his victim repeatedly, bruising her all over. Cuarenta then took the victim from the crime scene to an open field near the Kings Arms Apartments and left her there. Later, two residents of the apartments discovered the woman stumbling toward the complex covered in ants. The residents, who recognized the victim, quickly came to her aid. They notified the victims sister who rushed her to Oak Bend Medical Center where her injuries were treated. When law enforcement arrived to Cuarentas home, he had fled the scene. In addition to his prior conviction for family violence, Cuarenta also had two other prison trips for other crimes. A second family violence offense usually carries a maximum prison sentence of ten years, but because Cuarenta had been to prison before, this offense carried a higher punishment. Cuarenta will serve at least half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole because the Court found Cuarenta had used his hands and feet as deadly weapons. Fort Bend County District Attorney John Healey praised the wisdom of Judge Culver in making such a finding. That finding was very consistent with the evidence and it shows that Judge Culver wont sugar coat the brutality exhibited by an abuser, Healey said. As to the outcome of this case, Mr. Bridges stated, thirty-five years is a just result for such a violent crime committed by a person with such an extensive criminal history. Assistant District Attorneys Chad Bridges and Alex Foley prosecuted the case. Attorney Larry Thomas represented the defendant.
