Charge description: | Jimmie Lee Hardeman was convicted by a jury of his peers on November 4, 2015 for Theft. The 49-year-old Mission Bend man was charged with defrauding a metal recycler out of more than $1,000. According to Assistant District Attorney Adrianne Norman, in early January 2011, Hardeman sold copper and air conditioning coils to Julius Metals in Stafford, but changed the weights on the tickets before he went to the pay window. This resulted in an overpayment to the defendant of $1,370. The theft wasnt discovered until Hardeman returned days later with a friend who was caught altering his weight tickets. Julius Metals reviewed the defendants recent transactions to discover the theft and notified authorities. Julius Metals was forced to upgrade their security measures as a direct result of the defendants actions, said Norman. And the jury sent a clear message that this defendant was guilty when they returned their verdict in half an hour. Hardeman was tried in County Court at Law No. 1 before Presiding Judge Christopher G. Morales. Theft in this case is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $4,000 and/or up to 365 days in jail. Hardeman was probation eligible and asked the Court to determine his punishment. The defendant was sentenced to 204 days in the county jail. Assistant District Attorneys Adrianne Norman and Alycia Curtis prosecuted the case. Attorney Roderick Glass represented the defendant. |
