| Comments: | LAWSON, Joel Vance - In 1998, Lawson was convicted of Rape of a Child 1st Degree, in Pierce County. According to official documents, Lawson sexually assaulted a non-familial, 9-year-old male on more than one occasion during the summer of 1996. The victim was noted as being autistic, and Lawson was hired to baby-sit him after school. The victim disclosed the abuse to his mother, and Lawson eventually admitted to assaulting the victim, claiming he could not control himself. There are no other known sex-related arrests or convictions; however, Lawson admits that between the ages of 13 and 18, he molested approximately 18 male children who were between the ages of 6 and 11 years old. He also admits to peeping at males while in restrooms. He was not charged for any of these offenses. Lawson's assault pattern was to observe potential victims, looking for cues that they may be approachable, and then make contact. Lawson completed sexual deviancy treatment while incarcerated. He will be supervised by the Washington State Department of Corrections for a period of 24 months. Lawson is to have no contact with minors and is not to enter parks, pools, playgrounds, or other places where children normally congregate. He is not to possess or consume alcohol. Lawson must participate in sexual deviancy treatment while in the community. |
