| Comments: | John F. AMBROSE's convictions stem from elaborate phone calls to victims in which he posed as a law enforcement officer informing them that a loved one had been kidnapped. AMBROSE would make a subsequent phone call and pretend he was the kidnapper. Capitalizing on the victim's anxiety, he would eventually obtain personal information and coerce the victim into disrobing and asking them to perform sexual acts. AMBROSE's motivation in this and similar incidents was to control his victims through fear. All of his contacts were via telephone and there were no known physical contacts with any of his victims. While currently considered a low risk to re-offend, AMBROSE's extensive history and psychological profile led to his classification as an offender worthy of widespread public notification. While in custody, AMBROSE refused to participate in the Sex Offender Treatment Program. |
