| Comments: | In 1993, MENDEZ, Manuel was convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor and child molestation in the first degree in Pierce County, Washington. According to official files, Mendez sexually assaulted a 5-year-old non-familial male on several different occasions. California authorities intercepted a letter that Mendez sent to an inmate. The letter described photographs he had taken of the victim and sexual acts that he had performed on the child. A search of his residence was completed and the police discovered that Mendez had been corresponding with several other inmates around the country about having sexual contact with young children. He claimed that he had been involved with the victim for about 7 months. The police also seized numerous sexually exploitive photographs that Mendez had taken of the victim. Mendez had also taken several pairs of the victim's underwear as souvenirs. Records indicated that there were numerous other photographs of unclothed children depicted in sexually explicit conduct as well. Mendez declined to participate in a sexual deviancy treatment while incarcerated. He has no prior convictions for sex related offenses. He has no other known criminal history. His risk level assessment placed him in the Level III notification category, and he is considered a high risk to re-offend. |
