Inmate name: | Sterlyn Chance Edwards |
Charge description: | Sterlyn Chance Edwards plead guilty to Murder and 50 years in prison on February 3, 2015; just weeks after a jury convicted his getaway driver, Joshua Jacob Patterson, and sentenced him to 50 years in prison. The 24-year-old Missouri City man was charged with the 2010 murder after an intense investigation by the Tri-City Special Crimes Unit concluded he was one of two shooters involved in the death of a young boy. According to Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Bolin and Matthew Banister, both with the Narcotics and Gangs Division, 19-year-old Kristian Sullivan was found shot to death in the front yard of his Missouri City home in the early morning of August 26, 2010. Potentially gang-related, the Stafford, Missouri City and Sugar Land Tri-City Special Crimes Unit took over the investigation that culminated in over a year of collaborative detective work encompassing interviews of dozens of citizens and documented gang members. Leads in the case resulted in the arrest of Edwards, Patterson and another suspect who is still awaiting trial. We feel like the jurys sentence in Pattersons trial was a message that resonated with every citizen, gang member, and clearly with Sterlyn Edwards, said Banister. Gang violence of any sort, against any victim, and for all those impacted in our neighborhoods, will not be tolerated by our community. The jurors in Pattersons trial proved that enough even to Mr. Edwards. Edwards plead in the 240th District Court before Visiting Judge Lee Duggan, Jr. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison and a fine up to $10,000. Edwards must serve at least one-half of the 50-year sentence before he is eligible for parole. Attorney Stephen John Gilbert represented the defendant. |
