| Comments: | Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until passage of the community protection act of 1990 (which mandates sex offender registration) that law enforcement even knew where they were living. In many cases, law enforcement is not able to share that information with you. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated. Further, such abuse could potentially end law enforcement's ability to do community notifications. We believe the only person who wins if community notification ends is the sex offender, since sex offenders drive their power through secrecy. According to official documents, Burdick pled guilty to the crimes of Robbery 1st degree and Rape 1st degree and was found guilty. He was sentenced to a term of not more than 20 years on February 5, 1981. Burdick and another person entered a residence via an unlocked front door. Both subjects were wearing nylon stockings over their head and brandished knives. As one of the victims was awakened by the offender, he was cut on the bicep with the knife. This victim was 76 years of age. The live in nurse was forced into a bathroom. The male victim was led throughout his home with a knife to his neck, while the suspects looked for valuables. The male victim told the suspects that he did not have a safe in the home and that he could not recall where his wallet was at. At this time the victim was cut randomly about the arms, chest and stomach by the suspects. One of the suspects fled the residence and Burdick tied and gagged the male victim and locked him in a closet. The nurse was then taken from the home in a vehicle that was stolen from the residence and taken to a park. Burdick then raped the victim with a knife to her throat. During the assault on the female, she also was cut several times with the knife. Burdick and the other subject were arrested and convicted of the crime. Burdick no longer has any conditions with this conviction. Burdick was convicted of the crime of Failure to Register on September 6, 2001. Burdick is not on active supervision and his only requirement is to register as a sex offender. " Probation Conditions Entered |
